I am not a cloud over anyone’s head. I am a human being targeted as a victim by a political thug.

Rahm Emanuel…following the Mitch Daniels’ playbook of appointing your own toadies to legitimize unethical, immoral actions.

Reclaim Reform

Q – What kind of powerful person would decree that billions of earned dollars will be handed over to the financial industry and be free of oversight and declared exempt from ethics rules and regulations?

A – Rahm Emanuel, Democratic Mayor of Chicago. However, “what kind of person” still needs to be answered by the reader.

Why would he do this?

Mayor Emanuel’s own Ethics Commission openly revealed that the decision was designed “to attempt to ensure that no ethical clouds are hanging over any candidate’s head.” (Any candidate means Rahm.)

cloud over my head

My initial response is to remind everyone that I am not a cloud over Rahm’s political head. My income and the incomes of thousands of retirees are needed to pay for food, clothing and other necessities. We, as hard-working human beings, earned it and saved it over decades.

A December Mystery:The Missing Lighthouse Men

thanks to Andy for this–great mystery. A great tale to share over the holidays. 🙂

City Jackdaw

It is well known, I think, that people like to read ghost stories around the Christmas season, but how about a real-life December mystery?

The Flannan Isles are located thirty kilometres west of the Outer Hebrides, in the Atlantic Ocean. Celtic monks lived on those desolate islands in isolation, until they were abandoned for a thousand years. There are the remains of a chapel there, said to have been built by the Irish monk St.Flannan. In 1895 a lighthouse was built there, to warn off ships, passing in those treacherous waters.

In 1900, a three man crew of James Ducat, Thomas Marshall, and Donald MacArthur arrived for a two week posting, just in time for the hostile winter to set in.

I am not sure who is who in this photograph, but at least one of those three men is present in it, maybe the other two are, also.

A Man’s View

reblogging this — a man’s view on violence and rape towards women. He mentions the frat mindset of denigrating women and UVA comes to mind –although it is any campus, U.S.A. –and how they are once again questioning the validity of the victim’s claims, saying she had confused some facts. Well, when you’re given a drug that knocks you out, it is pretty damn strong neurological drug. Therefore, it would be harder to recall details and get confused. I don’t doubt that this woman was raped. And once again, women are made to be the problem instead of a frat system that relishes misogyny.

***Edited to add:  I find it highly ironic that this site is named after George Clooney.  In my opinion, he is not a feminist, and is disrespectful towards women.

Continuing along the thoughts on Friday’s blog~~~

I don’t mind telling you that this blog brought tears to my eyes. Really stunning to read such honesty and depth.  And he’s not gay! (meaning that, as Patrick states, most gay guys “get” women and their perspective, but straight guys, especially straight white guys don’t.)

From the interview:

Growing up in my house, feminism was actually a positive word. My mother, who is a strong woman, has always identified as a feminist. Despite this fact, she found herself being mistreated by my father. This just goes to show that even strong women — even feminist-identified women — can find themselves involved with men who treat them badly.

This was so powerful…because in the finger-pointing department, when blame is being handed out, it’s always the woman’s fault if she is mistreated.

This, too, was powerful:

Seeing the way she was treated…

It’s worse than I thought…using appliances for spying, as well

Young Turks has totally blown any illusion I had:

I found a wiki on In-Q-Tel here.

Needless to say, I’m a little freaked out right now.  This is just absolutely nuts.  Who does this??  Who is so paranoid that they have to spy on every single American–while breaking the law themselves?!  Irony is totally lost on these paranoid folks.  Who gave you the right to do this?  Not I.

Peer Review of GMO Safety Studies Finds Significant Flaws

GMO Awareness

Studies significantly inadequate or flawed

BREAKING NEWS: a new peer reviewed study of the Ag-Biotech industry’s so called ‘long term safety studies’ has found them to be “significantly inaccurate or flawed” and lacking in proof of safety.

And these are just short-term animal feeding studies… because nearly two decades after genetic engineered ingredients have been present in the majority of processed foods found in your grocery store, NO long term human health studies have ever been performed.

Why is no research being done on the potential human health risks of GMOs? The ag-bio companies won’t let it happen.

Emily Waltz explained it back in 2009, in her article published in Nature Biotechnology: “the crop industry’s strong-arm tactics and close-fisted attitude to sharing seeds is holding back independent research and undermining public acceptance of transgenic crops.” (Read the full article here.)

Scientific American magazine agreed: “Agritech companies have given themselves veto power over the work of independent…

the DARK Act

Center for Food Safety has this up on signing a petition for Congress to stop bending to the food manufacturers’ associations promoting this bill.

It’s keeping people in the dark about what is in their food.  The public has a right to know what is in their food and the food manufacturers have an obligation to provide that information.

As the CFS states, they are not going to voluntarily put this on the labels.  We have seen in California and Oregon how dirty they fight to keep from putting the ingredients on the label.  Voluntary isn’t in their vocabulary.
